The scenic outdoor setting of Oak Valley near La Riviere will be the setting for the theatrical production of "Moses: Prince of Egypt" July 29-31.

Moses: Prince of Egypt is a new community theatre adaptation written particularly for the outdoor stage.

It will involve over 60 performers including over 50 actors as well as dancers and musicians.

"This is growing as we add a few more crowd roles these next few weeks," noted Richard Klassen of the Candlewick players.

"The performers are from all over southern Manitoba ... and we hope to gather a couple more from the local area just to help as soldiers and slaves.

"Though it was meant to be a full-fledged drama, we have a core of dancers involved also including performers from La Riviere to Steinbach who will add a dimension to the piece as they fill out a couple of the scenes."

A new aspect is an orchestra that will augment the play with both newly written material as well as some material based in middle eastern and cultural Hebraic tradition to create a unique feel to the performance.

The drama is based on the traditional story of Moses. It begins as Moses has returned and is honored for conquering territory in the southern lands of Cush.

As a hero of Egypt, Moses is well-destined to rise and become Egypt's next Pharaoh, however with his connection to the Hebrew slaves, Moses is forced to make a decision to help them or abandon them in their misery.

In a sudden and drastic move, Moses' future seemed sealed, and he is led down a series events which would mold him and prepare him to be the great leader of his people. Not only would he discover his true leadership skills, but he would also discover the identity and power of the God of his forefathers.

Filled with intrigue, romance, magic and action, the play is being brought to the stage by Candlewick Players, who also brought to the summer stage Samson & Delilah in 2007, Les Miserables in 2008 and Fiddler on the Roof in 2009.
