The weather couldn't be much better, and neither then could be the opening of Morden's new aquatic spray park ithis week.

The Town of Morden was still working on landscaping and some finishing touches, but some eager families and kids have already tried it out.

The official opening ceremony took place Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Morden Park.

"It's going to be a safe place to play and cool off," said Director of Community Services Clare Agnew.

The greener and more energy efficient spray park replaced the aging wading pool removed from the Morden Park last year.

Agnew explained the spray park requires no chemicals and is activated by motion or touch so the water only runs while the playground is in use.

It even recycles water by holding it in an underground tank which is later pumped out to water plants and flowers.

The park can also be open longer because it does not require supervision, which reduces operating costs.

The 3,414 sq. ft. park will accommodate up to 100 children at once, and Agnew believes it will be a great addition to the Morden Park.

"The kids are really looking forward to it, and everyone sees it as a very positive step."

The total cost of the project is estimated at $150,000 and is being funded by:

Town of Morden - $123,000

Community Places grant - $18,000

Manitoba Homecoming socials - $3,500

Morden Area Foundation - $2,000

Morden Elks Club - $2,000

Fundraising - $1,500

Morden Lions Club - $1,000
