Franklin's four year reign as Border Baseball League champions came to an end Tuesday.

The Plum Coulee Pirates, who lost out to Franklin in the final the last three years, downed the Border Kings 12-1 in Dominion City to complete a three-game sweep of the 2010 final.

Plum Coulee got three runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings. Curtis Harms and Pete Fehr homered, while Dwight Heppner got the win. He went the distance striking out nine Border Kings.

Plum Coulee put themselves in position to sweep the series after 5-1 and 4-0 wins over Franklin in the first two games of their best of five final.

A complete team effort with all the components of the game working well had carried the Pirates to wins in the first two games.

John Elias had a great first game, pitching the complete game win in allowing just four hits and striking out five.

At the plate, he also had a hit, two RBIs, a walk and scored a run. Andrew Froese was the only Pirate to get two hits, while Dwight Heppner also had two RBIs.

Perry Nazerawich took the loss for the Border Kings. Jason Mateychuk and Russ Kihn each had two hits for the Kings.

In the second game, Pete Fehr pitched the complete game shutout in limiting the Kings to just three hits. He struck out seven and didn't allow a walk.

Mark Peters and Bill Fehr each had two hits for the Pirates with Peters driving in two runs and scoring one. Fehr and Andrew Froese had one RBI each.

The Pirates got two runs in the second inning and the other two in the fifth.

After getting off to a slow start, the Pirates turned it on over the latter part of the season. They had three losses and a tie after their first four games. Then over their next eight regular season games, they won five, lost one and tied two.

They then swept the Morden Mohawks in two games in the first round of playoffs, hitting their stride at just the right time.
